Built of local white pine, the front steps and double fireplace are granite, quarried and cut here in Atlanta. The dining room walls are the original pine boards as are most of the ceilings in the house. Before Sherman marched on Atlanta, the house was donated to a church thus surviving the Civil War. In 1901 the local elementary school burned down and the house was used as a school until repairs were completed. Except for the newly remodeled kitchen and sunroom, the floors throughout are oak and hand painted by the previous owner as were the Alice in Wonderland murals in the 2nd bedroom closets, and the mural above the closet in the front bedroom depicting the yellow brick road and OzmaCOs castle from the Wizard of Oz.
